Our village is in a situation similar to several small communities with a police force that we likely can't afford and there are some that would say eliminate it and let the New York State Police handle the load. I hope this never happens since each and every day I see evidence that the New York State Police are totally useless and have no desire to actually solve crimes but instead only to torment good citizens with traffic infractions that should not even be on the books. I would much rather see the State Police in our area ELIMINATED and give the extra money to our village police who actually do investigate and solve crime. Just recently we had a string of breakins and the State Police did nothing other than take statements and then hurry back to their seatbelt enforcement routine. If I want to damage my brain by not wearing a seatbelt or a motorcycle helmet that is within MY RIGHTS as GOD given and the government should not try to protect people from themselves. Where was the investigative team? Why was there no tire track analysis, footprint analysis, finger print analysis, fiber analysis, or DNA analysis on the crime scenes? This is what I pay my tax dollar for.....to solve crimes where there is an INTENDED harm to another or their property. Traffic infractions have no INTENDED harm and should be treated as unimportant compared to actual crime and the manpower should be allocated accordingly.
